Interviewed by The New Yorker

09 Jun, 2015

I was recently interview by The New Yorker about calligraphy videos on Instagram. It is a very positive article and I am really pleased. It is great promotion not just for myself but for calligraphy as a whole. You can read the article here. The interviewer asked me if we are experiencing a calligraphy revival. I said that I thought the question pointed to the answer as I strongly doubted the question would have been asked five years ago by anyone, let alone by a journalist from The New Yorker. I do believe we are experiencing a significant surge of interest in calligraphy and a greater uptake of people practicing calligraphy. I think it's a really healthy development for letterform related disciplines as a whole. I also believe it's making the world a slightly more beautiful place.

Approaching one million accounts on social media

09 May, 2015

Hello all. I just want to say quickly that it has been a pretty surreal few weeks. I now have approaching one million accounts following me on social media. That's hard for me to understand. It's respectable for a pop star, let alone someone like myself. I'm featured on The Mirror and The Daily Express websites today.

Anyone who knows me will tell you I really have worked incredibly hard for a long time to get to this point. I have a strong emotional connection to letterforms and, in the last four years, to calligraphy especially. That is often the key to success. Finding your passion, something you connect with profoundly, and then pursuing it with all of your heart. The success I am enjoying at the moment is testament to that.

I am really excited about the projects I'm working on and the huge plans I have for this year and beyond. I have so much to learn and so much I want to try to achieve. I'm focusing more on art this year and some great things are going on behind the scenes. I hope to tell you more about that in due course. Thank you sincerely for taking an interest in what I do.

Almost sold out of prints

05 May, 2015

Thank you so much to you all for your orders and interest in my work. I have almost sold out of everything in my shop now. All I have left are a handful of 'Do Not Go Gentle', 'Cloths of Heaven' and 'Peace' prints. No plans to do any more of those editions. I ship worldwide, link in profile. Some of the galleries in the links section of my site still have some of the other prints left.

Frequently Asked Questions

03 Apr, 2015

I have added a FAQ section to my website. I will tweak and add to it over time. People have been asking how I got started in calligraphy. It's not a happy go lucky story, but it's proof some clouds do sometimes indeed have a silver lining. I've written about it simply because someone out there might find it useful. You can read it here.

How To Get Started In Calligraphy

30 Mar, 2015

A lot of my calligraphy work has started going viral in the last few days and I currently have over 650,000 accounts following me on social media. Coverage has included articles by Design Taxi, Fast Company, BuzzFeed and many others. I've had literally hundreds of people asking me what pens I use over the last few days. I thought now would be the perfect time and place to write an article on the subject. You can read my article How To Get Started In Calligraphy here.

450K accounts following me on social media

06 Mar, 2015

I currently have approaching 450K accounts following me on social media. It has created a big increase in sales of prints and original works so please bear with me if you're waiting for an order. Thank you to everyone who bought a small original piece of their name this week. I want to do a great job on them and I am trying to process all of your orders, and print orders, in the next 7 working days. If you're in a rush to receive a print please buy from one of the excellent galleries in the links section of this website.

Please Bear With Me

06 Mar, 2015

I just want to thank everyone who is emailing me and contacting me via social media at the moment. I currently receive about 200 messages a week via email and direct message on social media. I get a lot of comments on social media too, there are approaching 100,000 comments on my Instagram account now for example, many wanting answers to questions. It feels rude not replying to people, and I imagine it feels rude not getting an answer from me, but it's really not meant that way. The truth is I am extremely busy with client and personal projects. I also have other responsibilities and obligations outside of my work. I really can't reply to everyone. I do read all of your messages and try to reply to as many as I can. It is a nice problem to have and I'm grateful. If you are contacting me regarding a potential project, a press enquiry, a speaking engagement, an order, or about a matter of urgency I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.

Casey Neistat

18 Feb, 2015

I met the film maker Casey Neistat at a conference we were both speaking at last year. His films have had over 100 million views on YouTube. He is a cool guy and really makes me think about social media in a new way. I've been enjoying his adventures on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube ever since. We have stayed in touch and recently collaborated on an Instagram project. He gave me the quote "Work Hard & Be Brave" and I made a calligraphy movie out of it. You can check his work out here.

Soho House Calligraphy Workshop

11 Feb, 2015

I did a calligraphy workshop for Soho House in London this week. I thought it went well and it was certainly well attended. I think the fact that a place like Soho House is interested in me doing a workshop really does reflect the fact that calligraphy has come a long way in the last few years in terms of image and popularity. Speaking of workshops, would anyone be interested in me doing an online calligraphy class this year? Please let me know and I will add you to my occasional mailing list.

Graphika Manila Conference 2015

11 Feb, 2015

I am now back in the UK after spending a week in the Philippines where I spoke at Graphika Manila, and also did a calligraphy workshop. I just want to say a big thank you to Arum and Ella for inviting me. Also a big thank you to all the people I met - conference attendees, volunteers, workshop participants, local calligraphers and speakers - for making me feel so welcome. I arrived home feeling inspired and humbled. I also feel very grateful to be in a position to talk about my work, and promote calligraphy, to such a large, warm and responsive audience. It was definitely a memorable experience.
